World Trade Center Exposure Zone
The 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund exists to financially support anyone in the NYC Exposure Zone, which is defined as the section of Manhattan south of Canal Street running from the Hudson River to the intersection of Canal Street and East Broadway, north on East Broadway to Clinton Street, and east on Clinton Street to the East River.
If you were present at Ground Zero (the 'Crash Site Area') between September 11, 2001 and May 30, 2002 and now suffer from cancer, you may be eligible for lifetime healthcare and/or a tax-free cash award.

9/11 Victim Compensation Fund
Despite 20 years having passed since these terrorist attacks, many people are just learning about the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund, which was created to compensate any person who was physically harmed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund was established and originally operated between 2001 and 2004. In 2011, President Obama reactivated the fund by enacting the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act's Title II. Though the fund was only supposed to stay open for five years, in December 2015, President Obama reauthorized the fund.
The fund was later reauthorized to stay open through December 2020 - increasing funding to $7.375 billion - but in February 2019, payments were temporarily decreased due to lack of funds. In 2019, President Trump enacted the Never Forget the Heroes: James Zadroga, Ray Pfeifer, and Luis Alvarez Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, extending the claim filing deadline to October 1, 2090, authorizing more than $10 billion in funds, and appropriating such funds as may be necessary to pay all eligible claims.

The Rise in Health Concerns Following 9/11
After the attack that brought down the Twin Towers, a cloud of dust and debris suffocated Lower Manhattan and spread throughout parts of the city.
Within seconds of the collapse of the World Trade Center, particles from pulverized building materials containing harmful chemicals such as asbestos, fiberglass, mercury, and benzene were spread across the area and inhaled by first responders, residents of NYC, and survivors who were present at Ground Zero on and after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Approximately half a million people, including more than 90,000 workers, were exposed to this toxic dust during the rescue, recovery, and cleanup efforts at Ground Zero.
According to The Natural Resources Defence Council, it is estimated that that 300 to 400 tons of asbestos fibers were used to construct the World Trade Center.
